If you looks at the noaa aerial photos, these places all look fine. Another friend in Wimston Waterway had 5 feet of storm surge on the ground level. Her neighbor's kitchen cabinets were found a few streets away. Ocean Front/Ocean side most of my friends had BAD damage from the waves.one friend has a sail boat in her downstairs and a motor boat in her poool. Hopefully the biggest problem you'll have is finding that beach you mention to sit on !ĭepends WHERE in Key Largo. In 3 weeks it will be a different story and I'm sure the reef will be back to normal visibility by then. The water is really stirred up and visibility is non existent near shore at the moment. I would say it would be ok as my best guess. Whether that happens in time for your trip I just don't know. I'm sure there will be pressure to allow tourists back asap as so many businesses and people depend on that to make a living. Currently only upper keys residents are permitted back, so it would be a while before even all residents are back, then tourists to follow. It would be best to monitor when tourists will be allowed back in. Further down the Keys is a different story entirely. I haven't seen a huge amount of wind damage to properties up here. The damage seems to be largely trees broken off and down, plus some flooding to homes on the ocean side. In 3 weeks time I would say everything that didn't suffer major damage will be open. As of now there's maybe 10 restaurants already open, the grocery stores are open, and a number of other stores are also. Key Largo is surprisingly opening up for business already.
